Mike Black was involved in Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft courses for 16 years. One of the challenges these courses often posed to the musicians was to compose a piece for live performance, often with only a day's notice. Inspired by this, Black decided to pose his own challenge to himself: compose, record and release an album in just one month. The result is GO/NO-GO.

LONG BRANCH — Musicians Mike Black and BUH, also known as Richard Wilkins, will kick off a new monthly series June 9 at Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts, 20 Third Ave., Long Branch.
The Downtown Digital series will expose audiences to the growing variety of today's electronic artists and genres within the electronic music category, said Doug Ferrari, SICA's executive director.
The series begins at 8 p.m. the second Friday of every month. Admission is $5.
Electronic music is no longer bound by the blips and bleeps commonly associated with this genre, according to a SICA news release. Entire orchestras now are housed on a single computer.
Every television commercial uses some sort of digital-music software, SICA said. The music was either created, arranged or made ready for broadcast on a computer.
Black and BUH will explain how it's done.
Black has played the Jersey Shore for years with bands and as a solo act, Ferrari said. His past experience includes a long stint with Guitar Craft.
BUH began playing music when he found a trumpet in his attic at age 10, then turned to classical and electric guitar, SICA said. A few years ago, he broke his wrist skateboarding and wasn't able to play the guitar. That's when he discovered composing on the computer.
